What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of counseling intervention that stimulates acupressure points by pressuring, tapping, or rubbing these points while focusing on situations that represent personal fear or traumata.

How ETF (Emotional Freedom Technique) Works?

Similar to acupuncture, EFT concentrates on the meridian points — or energy hotspots — to restore the body's balance of energy. It is claimed that by restoring this energy balance, EFT can help alleviate the signs and symptoms of a negative experience or emotion.

Acupuncture is used by acupuncture professionals to use thin, solid needles to apply force to acupuncture points. acupressure involves using tiny amounts of pressure in a tight circular motion.

How to Perform Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT Tapping?

1. Get to the root of the problem.

During the second step, the individual considers the act of resolving the complication. They should only choose to remedy one concern at a time.

2. Test the initial intensity

A person should rank the intensity of the issue on a scale of 0–10, with 10 being the worst the issue has ever been. This ranking system allows the person to assess the effectiveness of the tapping at the end of the treatment.

3. The setup process.

Before beginning each tapping round, the person should choose a reminder phrase about karate to tap during the early phase. This location is in the middle of the bottom of the fleshy part of the outer hand.

The phrase could be similar to:

"Even though I have [problem], I deeply and completely accept myself."

4. The tapping sequence

At this step, the individual takes out particular points on the body and repeats the phrase they have selected. If a trained practitioner is carrying out the treatment, they will do the tapping.

Here is the sequence for tapping points:

  • top of the head (TOH) - directly in the center of the top of the head
  • beginning of the eyebrow (EB) - the beginning of the brow, just above and to the side of the nose
  • side of the eye (SE) - on the bone at the outside corner of the eye
  • under the eye (UE) - on the bone under the eye, approximately 1 inch (in) below the pupil
  • under the nose (UN) - the point between the nose and upper lip
  • chin point (CH) - halfway between the underside of the lower lip and the bottom of the chin
  • beginning of the collarbone (CB) - the point where the breastbone (sternum), collarbone, and first rib intersect
  • under the arm (UA) - at the side of the body, approximately 4 in below the armpit

During the tapping process, repeat the tap around 5 times on each point with two or more fingertips.

For "twin points" that are present on both side of the body, yuo need to tap on one side only. But, there's no any problem if you can tap both of them.

5. Test the final intensity

Again, scale the intensity of the issue from 0 to 10. Ideally, this will have improved. Repeat the process until the intensity reaches 0 or plateaus.

Conclusion

EFT tapping is an acupressure therapy used to restore balance to your disrupted energy. It has been an accredited treatment for people suffering from PTSD, and it has shown some success as a treatment for anxiety, sadness, bodily pain, and insomnia as well.

Scientists continue to perform studies on the effectiveness of this treatment for certain other diseases and disorders. In many cases, it is important to consult your doctor before engaging in alternative healing practices. If you choose to try an alternative healing method, consult with your doctor first so that the steps of that therapy will be safer for your medical condition.
